Aquaculture Education Requirements
To become an aquaculture technician, you would usually require the completion of a Certificate II qualification in aquaculture.
The Seafood Industry Training Package has been endorsed. Under the
Training Package, three courses have been endorsed - certificates II,
III and Diploma in The Seafood Industry (Aquaculture).
A Certificate II in Seafood Industry (Seafood Processing) is available
from the WA Maritime Training Centre (Fremantle). You will need to have
completed Year 10 and achieved an average level of 3.5 or C grades in
each of four learning areas, or equivalent.
Seafood Industry Diploma (Aquaculture)
A Diploma of Seafood Industry (Aquaculture) is available through the WA Maritime Training Centre (Fremantle and Geraldton campuses). Entry to this course requires you to have completed the Certificate II in Seafood Industry (Seafood Processing) or Certificate III in the Seafood Industry (Aquaculture). The latter is available from the WA Maritime Training Centre (Fremantle) as well as the Albany and Broome campuses of TAFE.
Science and Business Degress
Curtin University of Technology offers a Bachelor of Science Aquaculture and Seafood Science, Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management or Aquatic Science Coastal Zone Management as well as a Bachelor of Agribusiness (Aquaculture) or (Aquatic Resources). The University also offers an Agribusiness (Marketing)/Science (Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management) double degree.
